WOMEN
SEPT 30 - German
kayaker Birgit Fischer became the greatest medal winner in Olympic
canoe/kayak history winning a sixth gold medal to go with her three
silvers. Fischer has won gold at every
Games from Moscow in 1980 to Sydney 20 years later, apart from the Los
Angeles Games in 1984. Her sixth gold medal equaled the German Olympic
record held by equestrian Reiner Klimke and swimmer Kristin Otto. OCT 1
- Canoe/Kayak competition delayed by 6 hours due to 60km/h winds at
Penrith Lakes. Fischer adds her seventh gold medal with the K2 500m win.
