due to high winds. SEP 28 - Australia takes both 470 golds winning their
1st gold in Sailing since 1972. SEP 29 - UK sweeps both sailing golds.
SEP 30 - The UK secures its 3rd gold medal. Britain's best previous
Olympic Games sailing performance was a four-gold haul in the 1908
Games.
Around 10,000 people packed the forecourt and steps of the Sydney Opera House Saturday night for the final medal ceremony of the sailing regatta of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the largest crowd ever to watch such an event.
The huge public support for the 36 sailors who received their medals against a backdrop of the Sydney Central Business District (CBD), the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the Olympic rings, and a berthed cruise liner, epitomized the huge interest created in sailing by having the regatta within the Harbour.
