DAY 3
JUNE 4, 2001
- KETCHIKAN
Sunrise/Sunset: 0410 - 2130
"Visitors to this beautiful city will be intrigued by its rich Indian heritage, shown through the world's largest collection of totem poles at Saxman Village. The Haidas, Tlingits and Tsimshians are all a part of Ketchikan's colorful history. Ketchikan, with its abundance of salmon, is also a sportfishing paradise and sightseers will be impressed with the scenery of both the town and its surroundings, especially Misty Fjords National Monument."
At 2:22 this morning, the Sea Princess crossed the Canada/USA international boundary as it sailed through the Canadian Inside Passage and British Columbia into the State of Alaska and United States territorial waters. The ship navigated through the Dixon Entrance bound for Ketchikan. At around 5am, the Southeastern Alaskan pilots boarded the ship at Point McCartey Pilot Station. Half an hour later, we were approaching the little town of Ketchikan via Nichols Strait and Tongass Narrows. By 6:38am, the Sea Princess was securely docked alongside Cruise Terminal in Ketchikan. We had come 548 Nautical Miles from Vancouver at an average speed of 15.26 knots. It was kinda sorta rainy in Ketchikan and the air temperature was a chilly 55 F (12 C). At 2:35pm, the Sea Princess set sail again; this time headed for Juneau. A little after 7pm, we cleared Snow Passage and proceeded towards ape Decision via Sumner Strait. At 9:39pm, we passed Cape Decision and navigated throughout the night in the Chatham Strait, Frederick Sound and Stephens Passage.
